Congratulations: Fabienne Meier-Abt

PD Dr Fabienne Meier-Abt has been appointed Associate Professor ad personam of Genetics of Hereditary Tumor Diseases by the Board of the University of Zurich. She will take up the professorship on 1 September 2026.

Fabienne Meier-Abt has been working at the Institute of Medical Genetics of the University of Zurich since 2021. She leads her own research group and also serves in the genetic counselling clinic. At the same time, she is also a senior physician at University Hospital Zurich.

Her appointment further strengthens the links between medical genetics, oncology and translational research in the field of hereditary tumor diseases at the University of Zurich.

Meier-Abt studied Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Physiology at the University of Cambridge. In 2009, she obtained her Doctor of Medicine degree from Yale University in the United States and completed her doctorate at the University of Basel in 2013. After joining University Hospital Zurich, she obtained board certification in Hematology in 2018. She is also board-certified in Medical Genetics.

Her clinical and scientific work therefore combines the fields of genetics and hematology in a particularly distinctive way. Her work focuses on the genetic basis of hereditary tumor diseases and on how genetic findings can be translated into targeted approaches for prevention and personalized medical care.

The appointment as Associate Professor ad personam recognizes Fabienne Meier-Abt’s scientific and clinical achievements and at the same time highlights the growing importance of genetic tumor predisposition diagnostics and precision medicine.
