Institute of Medical Genetics - UZH

The Institute of Medical Genetics of the University of Zurich is engaged in Research & Teaching as well through its Genetic Consultation and Genetic Diagnostics Laboratory for patients with genetic diseases.

In addition to children and adults with suspected genetic developmental disorders, we see patients or their relatives with suspected hereditary cancers (e.g. breast cancer, colon cancer), connective tissue disorders (e.g. Marfan or Ehlers-Danlos syndrome), growth disorders (short stature, tall stature), neuromuscular disorders, visual and hearing disorders, and many more in our consultation hours.

Genetic-diagnostic clarification and consultation in cases of unfulfilled desire to have children, hereditary disease in the family, pathological pregnancy findings or consultation on the possibilities and limits of prenatal diagnostics are also part of our field of activity.

We regularly perform consults at the University Hospital Zurich (USZ), the University-Children's Hospital Zurich (KiSpi), Cantonal Hospital Winterthur (KSW) and the Cantonal Hospital of the Grisons (KSGR).

Current research projects include causes and pathomechanisms of developmental delay, mental retardation, epileptic encephalopathy, Moyamoya disease, Joubert syndrome and chromosomal disorders, as well as rare diseases and personalized medicine.

The continuous application of the latest research findings to medical practice is of great concern to us.
